Activities with kids

Traveling with kids in Puglia is refreshingly easy—and genuinely fun. This is a great area for family vacations, where little ones can be little ones and parents can actually relax. The historic little towns and villages nearby boast lovely old centers which are mostly car-free, so kids can wander, play, and explore safely while you soak up the atmosphere. Life here moves at a human pace, and families are warmly welcomed wherever you go. Add to that miles of sandy beaches with shallow, calm water—perfect for splashing, sandcastles, and long, happy beach days—and you’ve got a destination that works beautifully for everyone.

There are also activities designed especially for families with young children. Below are just a few ideas to give you a feel for what’s on offer and help spark some inspiration for your stay.

Adventure Park Castellana Grotte

Several climbing trails from 2 years (there is a “Baby Park”) until adult age. There is a picnic area as well.

Aquapark Egnazia

Acquapark Egnazia, one of Southern Italy’s largest water park, is about 30 minutes by car away.

The Caves of Castellana

At about half an hour by car and open all year: The famous Grotte di Castellana are really quite spectacular. There are two tours: The first is suitable for children as well and stretches over about 1 km, lasting approximately 50 minutes. The second is 3 km and lasts about 2 hours.

Zoosafari

We are somewhat reluctant about this one. Over the past years the management has been doing quite a bit to improve the conditions of the animals. In our opinion, however, there are still various issues, so we don’t feel we can fully recommend this place, despite the fact that it is one of Europe’s largest Safari Parks and only 20 minutes by car from us.

right next to the Zoo is a large lunapark which is good fun, complete with great views over the hills and to the sea (do check out the Ferris Wheel).right next to the Zoo is a large lunapark which is good fun, complete with great views over the hills and to the sea (do check out the Ferris Wheel).
